What you will learn in a glance?

In the first year, students in the actuarial science program will learn essential fundamentals in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, and Finance. They will also acquire Business, Communication, and IT skills to complement their core knowledge. This level aims to provide students with a strong foundation before progressing to Level 2 of Actuarial Science study.

Moving into the second year, focuses on using the core knowledge of Mathematics and Statistics as the driving force behind complex models in Economics and Finance within the actuarial industry. Students will integrate this core knowledge to develop actuarial tools and infrastructure for planning and managing purposes. They will receive exposure and coaching specifically tailored to actuarial applications, gradually fostering independence in study and research efforts. Additionally, students will take two specialism modules, Programming for Data Analytics and Operational Research and Analytics, to gain exclusive exposure to data analytics.

During the 16-week internship or industrial training, students will undertake a minimum 16-week internship or industrial training. This internship experience is designed to facilitate a smooth transition from the classroom to the working environment. It provides students with practical exposure to the actuarial industry, preparing them for future careers.

In the third year, students will merge their knowledge and industrial experience to apply their acquired skills in planning, managing, and analyzing risk. The emphasis is placed on evaluating the financial performance of businesses from an actuary's perspective. Students will gain an understanding of the critical roles played by actuaries, including the development and pricing of insurance products. They will further develop skills in risk management, actuarial modeling, and rate-making. Additionally, students will take two specialism modules, Behavioral Science & Marketing Analytics and Advanced Predictive Analytics, to enhance their knowledge and skills in data analytics.

Dual Degrees from APU and DMU United Kindom

Students who joined the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Actuarial Studies with a specialism in Data Analytics at APU University Malaysia will have the option to apply for the APU-DMU Dual Degree Scheme. Under this Scheme, students will be able to get 2 Degree Certificates and transcripts upon graduation: 1 from Asia Pacific University (APU), Malaysia, and 1 from De Montfort University (DMU), UK. please note this is optional and costs GBP 375 Per year.
